1. Andre’s
Quintessentially French restaurant in a converted house. Coquilles St. Jacques, magret of duck, lobster sausage, and smoked goose breast are classics. Service is gracious, and Andre Rochat presides over the kitchen.

2. Pamplemousse
With rough-hewn beams, baskets of fresh flowers on the tables, and nooks decorated with pottery and copper cookware, Pamplemousse (“grapefruit” in French) resembles a dining room in Provence. Dinner begins with baskets of breads, crudités, hard-cooked eggs, and olives. Entrées include veal medallions in a dijon-accented cream sauce, and roast duckling in a red wine and rum sauce.

The room is exquisite, with original Picassos on the walls and a carpet designed by Pablo Picasso’s son, Claude, underfoot. Spanish-born chef, Julian Serrano, creates contemporary French dishes with an Iberian accent. Among the delights are sautéed medallions of fallow deer, a warm lobster salad, sautéed foie gras, and roasted langoustines.

A feast for both the palate and the eyes, with lovely opening touches such as rillettes of salmon and ciabatta, which come unbidden to the table. The signature dish is braised beef short ribs with horseradish potatoes. The decor is enhanced by Renoir originals.

An extensive menu features the likes of rosemary roasted lamb with black olive mashed potatoes and grilled wild king salmon on a granny smith apple cabbage slaw with candied walnuts. Scrumptious desserts, include lemon ice-box pie with raspberry sorbet. The paintings on the walls are by local artists and are for sale.

If you read through the whole menu you may never get around to eating at Chinois – the sushi section alone lists 35 choices. Sizzling whole catfish and sweet soy-glazed Atlantic salmon are prepared with a French twist.
