Top 10 Nightclubs and Lounges
-
1. House of Blues
One of the city’s most popular after-dark spots, House of Blues is a restaurant by day and a nightclub when no major concerts are booked. Flashback Fridays focus on music of the 1980s. A Sunday Gospel Brunch features a Southern-style buffet accompanied by live gospel music. There’s live blues Thursday through Saturday – featuring such big-name entertainers as B. B. King, Sheryl Crow, and the Blues Brothers. Even if you don’t like blues, visit just for the decor alone – the place is crammed with folk art.
-
2. Studio 54
Like its Manhattan namesake, Studio 54 attracts celebrities. Some of them even make impromptu stage appearances. Most nights, DJ Frankie officiates over the four dance floors and bars; special theme nights cater for different tastes. Additional entertainment is provided by performers suspended from bungees above the crowds.
-
3. Drais
Book-lined Drais is Las Vegas’s only after-hours club. A fireplace, comfortable upholstered chairs, and potted palms add to the intimate atmosphere. With some of the world’s greatest DJs playing everything from techno to Latin rhythms, the party usually goes on well after sunrise.
-
4. rumjungle
Converts from restaurant to nightclub at 11pm Thursdays through Saturdays. Live bands are accompanied by dancers and gymnasts.
-
5. VooDoo Lounge
Smaller than the hotel’s Club Rio, the VooDoo Lounge offers live music and a dazzling view of the Strip. There’s a cover charge for guests not dining in the VooDoo Café.
-
6. Baby’s
This hip club features top national and international DJs in a subterranean setting complete with a vast aquarium. Music ranges from funky hip-hop to California techno.
-
7. Gilley’s Dance Hall, Saloon, & Bar-B-Q
Gilley’s offers a down-home atmosphere with Country and Western music. Free line-dance lessons precede the dancing proper on some evenings, “west-coast swing” lessons on others; some nights there’s a live band.
-
8. The Beach
With waitresses in bikinis and two floors decorated in an ocean and surfing theme, the Beach is a complete entertainment complex. Dancing, a restaurant, a sports bar, and a sports book make this off-Strip club a favorite with the younger crowd.
-
9. Boston Grill & Bar
The Boston Grill & Bar is the only place in town that regularly features local bands. While the large, no-frills venue is lacking in atmosphere, the management’s commitment to local music ensures that there are live acts at least five nights a week, ranging from punk and funk to rhythm and blues, swing, and soul.
-
10. The Armadillo Lounge
This north Las Vegas nightclub gets swingin’ on Sunday afternoons with dancing to favorite swing tunes. On Fridays and Saturdays, the house band “Love Shack” plays popular classics from the 1980s.
