London

A city of infinite colour and variety, London is both richly historic, tracing its roots back over 2000 years, and unceasingly modern, at the forefront of fashion, music and the arts. There is a fantastic amount to interest and entertain the visitor here: a selection of the best of the best is explored here.

  • Located in the courtyard of the Wallace Collection, this wonderful restaurant serves delicious lunches. Choose from big salads, wild mushroom risotto and pistachio and chocolate crème brulée with shortbread.

  • Sandwiches, salads and light meat and fish dishes are served until 3am Monday to Saturday and 11pm on Sunday.

  • Popular disco with a mix of DJs and a restaurant.

  • Located in a side alley next to the Royal Opera House, this cafe is a good bet if you are looking to dine somewhere central. It serves good, fresh food at reasonable prices.

  • Cafe Kick

This feels like the kind of bar you'd find in Barcelona down some dodgy alleyway but you'd visit once and you'd never want to leave! I love this place and wish it was my local. The table football is a major highlight but the drinks are fab and the atmosphere spot on.

  • Cute little Italian restaurant with friendly staff, reasonable prices and outside tables. Pasta and pizza in the evenings or tasty ciabatta sandwiches at lunch - the food isn't out of this world but this is a great find if you're on a budget in pricey Covent Garden.

  • One of a chain of Indian restaurants focusing on Goan and regional cooking.

  • This light and airy Italian eaterie offers classic dishes and a good wine list. The upstairs restaurant is slightly more formal.

  • Known for its fascinating contemporary art exhibitions and excellent art book shop.

  • If you like colour, bustle, shopping, browsing, eating, looking and an assault on the senses then this market has everything. If it's not on the hundreds of stalls that ramble alongside the river and through indoor halls, which are really about six markets flowing into one, then it's in the many cafes and booths or just in the chatter and banter of the stallholders. Sit and sip a juice or a coffee and watch the boats drift along the canal. Eat your way around the world without leaving this small area of London. To me, these Camden Markets sum up London. Here you can see the fashionable and rich mix with the goths and punks. Here you find antiques and wonderful works of art to delight the senses and stretch the purse strings or you can make a little go a long way with such bargains as a string of glass beads for £1 and a carved wooden spooon for 50p. Go and enjoy.
