London

A city of infinite colour and variety, London is both richly historic, tracing its roots back over 2000 years, and unceasingly modern, at the forefront of fashion, music and the arts. There is a fantastic amount to interest and entertain the visitor here: a selection of the best of the best is explored here.

  • Durrants Hotel

This Georgian hotel, close to Marylebone High Street and Oxford Street, has been in business since 1790. It has a comfortable, old-fashioned style, with oak-panelled rooms, paintings on the walls and comfy leather seats.

  • During World War II the Allied Commander (1880–1969) lived at No. 20 Grosvenor Square, near the US embassy.

  • One of an excellent chain of sandwich bars with a selection of sandwiches, soups, sushi and salads.

  • Disco funk on Saturdays, rock on Fridays.

  • London’s oldest purpose-built movie theatre, it remains one of the prettiest. Recently re-opened after refurbishment, with luxury seats, a bar and restaurant.

  • A legal club that looks and feels like a grimey warehouse, Electrowerkz is London's fashionably hedonistic nightlife scene at its best.

Unlike many more expensive and trendy venues now found in the city center, it's all about music and fun in this Angel venue.

Different clubnights and guests regularly take control of the sound system, although you'll find the music is mainly a variation on pounding techno beats here.

Look out for the monthly Bangface event for a modern interpretation of 1990's rave culture along with acclaimed DJs from the worlds of breakbeat, electro and dub.

  • Elizabeth Hotel

This handsome town house overlooks a quiet, private square, which is available for guests’ use. It is close to Victoria station, and has single, double and family rooms.

  • Gorgeous little gastro-pub with delicious, inventive food and a friendly atmosphere.

  • All the outdoor gear you could ever want plus lots of useful gadgets and gizmos.

  • In a quiet street opposite one of west London’s most attractive corners, Leinster Mews, this small hotel is one of the cheapest in the area. Basic but comfortable, there are various size rooms available, including a family room for up to five people.
