A city of infinite colour and variety, London is both richly historic, tracing its roots back over 2000 years, and unceasingly modern, at the forefront of fashion, music and the arts. There is a fantastic amount to interest and entertain the visitor here: a selection of the best of the best is explored here.

  • A range of pizza toppings is offered at this wonderful riverside shack.

  • Fantastic vegetarian and vegan food at cheap prices. The cakes are especially recommended! Run by Hare Krishnas. Friendly atmosphere.

  • Organized by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), this annual festival in a major west London exhibition hall is a chance to sample the best beers and ciders produced in Britain.

  • Built in 1884 as the railway hotel serving Liverpool Street station, and the only hotel in the City of London, The Great Eastern has recently been brilliantly renovated. Among its delights is a wonderful glass-domed restaurant, the Aurora – one of a number of restaurants and bars. Rooms are designed for business guests with ergonomic desks, ISDN lines, VCRs and DVD players.

  • Stylish Italian restaurant attracting a youthful crowd. The menu features such favourites as mashed potatoes and duck with pomegranates.

  • In 1851, the expanding Empire was celebrated in an exhibition held in a massive glass structure in Hyde Park.

  • Greenwich

    The World Heritage Site of Greenwich includes Sir Christopher Wren’s Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich Park and the Royal Observatory Greenwich where the Prime Meridian, Longitude 0 , was established. In the fine park are the Queen’s Houseand National Maritime Museum. Greenwich has several excellent restaurants and marine-related shops as well as a market selling arts, crafts and antiques. The old tea clipper, theCutty Sark , is nearby.

  • Open air market near Greenwich - very nice for browsing!

  • This pleasant townhouse is located beside Greenwich Park in the centre of Greenwich. There are eight rooms: two triple-bedrooms overlook the park and there is also single accommodation.

  • Go tar spotting in this grungy bar, most recently Amy Winehouse and watch out for my mates 'Fisher Price' self service disco evenings upstairs, complete with mickey mouse hands!
