A city of infinite colour and variety, London is both richly historic, tracing its roots back over 2000 years, and unceasingly modern, at the forefront of fashion, music and the arts. There is a fantastic amount to interest and entertain the visitor here: a selection of the best of the best is explored here.
-
An uncharacteristically sentimental song that celebrates the city.

Take the escalator to the top of Funland and make your way down through this electronic jungle of video games and virtual- reality rides. There are dodgem cars, a race-track simulator and a bowling alley. Themed restaurants, bars, shops and cinemas fill up the space, as well as an HMV record store. The Planet Hollywood restaurant is next door.
-
The Trocadero entertainment complex in the heart of the West End is a magnet for children. Aside from its shops, restaurants and cinema, there is a stomach-lifting vertical drop ride, a bowling alley and a bewildering array of hi-tech video games and simulators that will keep them occupied for hours.

London Walks is a fantastic company that offers a huge array of guided walks around London for only £6. As any Londoner knows, NOTHING in this city costs only £6, so this is not only a bargain, but a really different, interesting and fun way to spend 2 hours.
There are so many different types of walks that cover all areas and all aspects of London’s history (and present) from ‘Ghosts of the Old City’ to ‘Shakespeare’s London’ to walks that take you through locations used in the movies. Personally I have gone on the Law Courts walk, the ‘Jack the Ripper’s London’ walk and the ‘Spies & Spycatchers’ walk. Each was incredibly interesting and informative, and they show you sides and places of London you never knew were there. The guides often also work as actors, so are great at public speaking and keeping things entertaining. The timetable varies and the walks run every day of the week, all through the day. They also offer seasonal special walks, like ‘The Charles Dickens Christmas’. With no need to book, I would 100{'dkimages': '/dkimages'}ecommend this to anyone, as a filler for a couple of hours in the city, or as an activity on a sunny day. A fantastic way to see so many of the London highlights! -
There’s a full day out to be had in this 36-acre zoo. Home of the Zoological Society of London, the zoo emphasizes its important international role in conservation and research work. Its cages and enclosures have won awards, such as the aviary designed by Lord Snowdon. The children’s zoo is full of things to do, with a pet care centre, Animals in Action and Predatory Birds displays.
-
Lying on the northern side of Regent’s Park, London Zoo is home to 600 different animal species. The zoo is heavily into conservation and you can see the breeding programmes of endangered animals, such as the giant weta and Knysna seahorse. A map is provided and their booklet is full of fascinating animal lore.
-
The Reptile House in London Zoo was first opened in 1849 and houses a huge collection of snakes and lizards. Discover all there is to know about these cold-blooded creatures and on Fridays you can even feed the snakes! This is a definite must see for any Harry Potter fans out there- part of 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' was filmed here!
-
Commemorating the Great Fire of 1666, this is sung in a round, a device popular since Elizabethan days.
-
Some of the most innovative British designers have worked for London Transport, and their posters and furnishings are on display here. See vehicles that have served the city for two centuries. The bookshop sells souvenir model buses, taxis and goods displaying the distinctive London Underground symbol.
-
In this former flower-market building, the history of London’s transport system is illustrated with posters, photographs and examples of early buses, tubes and horse-drawn vehicles. There are also interactive “KidZones” for children.
