Located in the heart of Spitalfields, this early 18th century Huguenot house is an extraordinary time capsule that springs open and surprises fortunate passers-by on occasional Sundays and Mondays throughout the year. Its creator and restorer, Dennis Severs, was an artist who used his visitors' imagination as his canvas, and lived in the house in much the same way as its original inhabitants might have done in the 1730s – by candlelight and without any running water or electrical power. Oft nicknamed the Mary Celeste House, to enter its door is to pass through the frame of a painting: one with a time, smell, noise and life of its own... Yet from the outside, the gas lantern and the bamboo-caged canary are only the merest hints of the treasures that lie within... Still one of London's best-kept secrets, there is no other heritage experience in the City that even comes close to it.

London Walks is a fantastic company that offers a huge array of guided walks around London for only £6. As any Londoner knows, NOTHING in this city costs only £6, so this is not only a bargain, but a really different, interesting and fun way to spend 2 hours.
There are so many different types of walks that cover all areas and all aspects of London’s history (and present) from ‘Ghosts of the Old City’ to ‘Shakespeare’s London’ to walks that take you through locations used in the movies. Personally I have gone on the Law Courts walk, the ‘Jack the Ripper’s London’ walk and the ‘Spies & Spycatchers’ walk. Each was incredibly interesting and informative, and they show you sides and places of London you never knew were there. The guides often also work as actors, so are great at public speaking and keeping things entertaining. The timetable varies and the walks run every day of the week, all through the day. They also offer seasonal special walks, like ‘The Charles Dickens Christmas’. With no need to book, I would 100{'dkimages': '/dkimages'}ecommend this to anyone, as a filler for a couple of hours in the city, or as an activity on a sunny day. A fantastic way to see so many of the London highlights! -
Great day out for all the family. A chance to see how the Vikings really lived, through living history recreations (5th August 2007). Based at the Old Hall in Tatton Park is where you will find the Vikings. The grass is covered with groups of Vikings enjoying their day to day lives from cooking to sword play. So much to see and do and best of all it's free! You only pay park entry for parking. If you have had your fill of the Vikings head up to the Mansion House where you will find the gardens, resaurant, shops and a display of horsedrawn coaches. There's also a childrens play area and a farm. All this is set in a beautiful landscape, take a picnic and take full advantage of one of Britains best gems.
