  • Located in a side alley next to the Royal Opera House, this cafe is a good bet if you are looking to dine somewhere central. It serves good, fresh food at reasonable prices.

  • Christopher's

Slick bar and restaurant combo in Covent Garden. The restaurant is pretty nice but really you come here for the bar with its cool little booths, great cocktails and fab bar food. Its not cheap but after much research this is the best mojito I've found in Covent Garden!

  • Detroit

Dark and moody cocktail bar off Seven Dials. Mojito isn't bad but its not as good as Christopher's. A good place to start a mojito-crawl as there's usually enough room for a few of you to sit down.

  • Run by the Ruocco family since the 1960s, this is one of few good, cheap cafés in central London. English breakfasts, pasta, veal, and sandwiches are served.

  • This small basement attracts a designer crowd in the evenings. Huge choice of coffees (some with liqueurs), cocktails and bottled beers.

  • An ancient dive where wine, port and Madeira are served from the barrel in schooners or beakers.

  • Knights Bar, Simpsons

A more refined Cocktail bar, perfect for a more discreet drink, business meetings or if you're feeling like a bit of posh. Not the place for a big group night out (go to Smollenskys next door for that) but a nice, quiet place to go at the end of a long day.

  • Belgian beer and European cuisine served in a relaxed setting attract drinkers and diners alike at this popular spot.

  • One of the best places to buy and sample really good coffee, including organically produced brews. The tantalizing aroma drifts up to the wooden bench tables in the café at the back of the premises.

  • Easy to miss as it's got to be one of London's smallest drinking holes - and a real insider's gem. Only locals really know it. Just off the Strand, it's full of character and worth seekig out.
