A city of infinite colour and variety, London is both richly historic, tracing its roots back over 2000 years, and unceasingly modern, at the forefront of fashion, music and the arts. There is a fantastic amount to interest and entertain the visitor here: a selection of the best of the best is explored here.

If you're prepared to fend off the crowds and the queues, you're bound to bag some bargains here. Not an enjoyable shopping experience but you'll find it hard to find high street fashions at these prices anywhere else in central London.
-
Spanish style snacks downstairs, exclusive Asian influence upstairs.
-
A wonderful welcoming hotel that is a calm oasis in the middle of busy Mayfair

With five children under 8 we found this restaurant catered for all of us. They found us a table without booking and the children just loved discovering the wild animals inside. When we went there was free face painting and balloons. It was a great end to the day!
-
Great bar with a young crowd, trendy atmosphere and lots of seating. You can order a rainbow coloured array of vodka shots with all different flavors.
-
Such a shame that tourists rarely reach this part of London. So much space, great views of the City in the distance, and to escape the stress of town, nothing can beat standing in the middle of a herd of wild deer in Autumn. Priceless!
-
An excellent place to stop following a visit to the market. This Sausage and Mash Cafe is a must for anyone visiting the city.
-
Very popular japanese restaurant with wagamamma style long tables. Does nice sushi but not cheap!
-
A great spot with a mix of local markets, amazing cafes (home made ice creams, falaffal, Middle Eastern sweets....)
Nearest Tube is Shepherds Bush Market - and walk along the Uxbridge Road!
-
ShoHo - Shoreditch & Hoxton - has been edgy since Shakespeare established his first theatre here just outside the City walls. London has always been at the cutting edge of all things arty and fashionable and ShoHo is at the cutting edge of London.
Start your day at Old St tube and walk east. Take in some art (of the formal kind) at the White Cube gallery on Hoxton Square, passing by some art (of the street kind) at various points where graffiti artist Banksy has passed before you.
Keep going east and pick up a bunch of sunflowers and a great bagel and Monmouth coffee at Columbia Road, before hitting the retro fashions and furniture of Rivington Street and Curtain Road.
The hardest thing is what to have for lunch - great Vietnamese on Kingsland Road, Jamie Oliver's '15', followed by a cleansing ale by the canal at the Narrow Boat, or cocktails at Lounge Lover.
Luckily you're just in the right spot to take in London's most happening nightlife.
Where to stay: the Hoxton Hotel on Great Eastern Street.
