A city of infinite colour and variety, London is both richly historic, tracing its roots back over 2000 years, and unceasingly modern, at the forefront of fashion, music and the arts. There is a fantastic amount to interest and entertain the visitor here: a selection of the best of the best is explored here.

This old-fashioned pub on Essex Road is awash with charm, from the chandeliers and cozy leather sofas to the well-dressed North London drinkers.
Friday and Saturday nights see DJs and bands keep the crowds dancing until the early hours, whilst the vibe is often no less lively during the week.
Other entertainment includes stand-up comedy performances, accoustic sets and 'legendary' Sunday roasts.
The very original 'Jazz on the Road' event (held on the 3rd Thursday of every month) is a particular highlight; expect live music, professional dancers and Kerouac-inspired poetry and improvisation.

The Olde White Bear is a wonderful, get-in-from-the-wind-and-rain pub. Its location between Hampstead Heath and Hampstead Village contributes to the countryside atmosphere, and the pub cat seems to get on fine with the occasional visiting dog.
The Olde White Bear is just down the road from the local New End Theatre, and its walls are covered with theatrical photographs and old pictures. The pub is dominated by the bar, with the rest of the pub running along one side and wrapping around each end. At one end of the pub, there is a fireplace, with a TV (on mute, showing soccer) at the other end. The TV certainly did not dominate anything, and we shared the cosy area by the fireplace with a couple of friendly Irishmen, a few people at the bar, someone reading, and Buffy the cat. It was all very relaxed and low-key. Very pleasant

An amazing, tiny, traditional East End pub. Once some truly evil person threw a fire bomb through the window and the whole of the inside was burnt. None the less, they opened the next day and all their loyal customers sat in the stinking ashes drinking the supplied cans of red stripe: absolute blitz spirit.

A dining room attached to the beautiful Prince Alfred pub near Warwick Avenue tube station.
-
It's a converted public toilet, but has been made into a chic bar. It's a small venue which makes it intimate when watching a band. There's a dancefloor and the music is great... so go on... get up there and shake your stuff!
-
The Reliance is a nice, friendly pub on Old St near Hoxton Square.
-
Richmond is always worth visiting. Plenty of places to eat and always something happening on the river.
-
There are three themed gardens covering over 1.5 acres including fully grown oaks and fruit trees, growing in just 1.5m of soil, and a flowing stream stocked with fish and wildlife.
And the're all on the roof of a house!

Set across the bank of the Thames, the Royal Horseguards, a crown jewel in the Thistle hotel chain, is in a glorious old building that once was a club for MPs. Located on a quiet street, the Royal Horseguards is the perfect location -- right in the center of everything, but with none of the crowds that generally accompany such a location.

A great, authentic if trendy East London pub with moreish bar snacks, superlative bread and butter, and a bustling night scene. Come after perusing the Sunday flower market for their delicious Sunday roast! Definitely book a table and/or get there early for a seat!
