  • To see a Shakespeare play at the reconstructed Globe is a magical experience. Seated in three tiers, open to the skies, the audience is encouraged to heckle and shout as they did in Shakespeare’s day. Except when a matinee is playing, visitors to the exhibition next door are given guided tours of the theatre by staff.

A hallmark not just of London but the entire English language. Tucked just beside the immense power station now housing the Tate Modern, the Globe is a must-see in my book. The ultimate experience is obviously attending one of the Bard's plays. At 5 quid for a day-of 'groundling' (standing) ticket, you can't go wrong; just make sure the weather is good and you arrive early so you can rest yourself against the edge of the stage. Also helps if you know a synopsis of the play beforehand. For those less inclined towards attending a performance, a colorful museum of Shakespearean theater is also within the complex.
