  • 1. Fred Segal

Today’s hottest stars such as Jennifer Aniston, Nicole Kidman, and George Clooney have all been spotted browsing for cool clothes and accessories at this style emporium. It’s also a favorite for wardrobe buyers for TV and feature films. The West Hollywood branch is more celebrity-heavy (see Fred Segal).

  • 2. Urth Café

This West Hollywood eating joint is a health- and waist-conscious café on the celebrity radar, but most days it’s just the usual in-crowd munching on vegetarian lasagne and noshing on New York cheesecake. The sunny patio offers the best vantage point for checking out the crowd from behind sunglasses.

  • 3. Viper Room

Celebrities like to hang out with their own kind, so it’s no wonder that the VIP booths at this Johnny Depp-owned nightclub are often filled with his personal pals. Occasionally, stars such as Bruce Springsteen or the Wallflowers take to the stage, but these coveted concerts are rarely advertised (see Viper Room, Viper Room ).

  • 4. The Ivy

The air at this rustic French restaurant is electric with the buzz of Hollywood’s power players. Deals are struck daily between movie moguls, celebs, agents, and their high-profile clients. Count yourself fortunate if you manage to score a table on the fenced-in patio table for great people and celeb watching.

  • 5. Spago Beverly Hills

There aren’t too many restaurants whose owners are as famous as their A-list patrons, but Wolfgang Puck is certainly one of them. He can often be seen schmoozing in the dining room and blowing air kisses. One of the most pleasant spots for stargazing (see Spago Beverly Hills, Spago Beverly Hills).

  • 6. Book Soup

This excellent independent bookstore draws a sizeable celebrity contingent with its eclectic offerings, including international publications. Try and increase your chances of meeting a star by attending one of their book readings or book signing sessions. Call for schedules.

  • 7. The Whiskey Bar

Catering to a “Rolls-Royce” rock’n’roll crowd, this hot hangout at the Sunset Marquis Hotel (see The Whiskey Bar, Sunset Marquis Hotel & Villas) is owned by Rande Gerber, husband of super-model Cindy Crawford. Getting past the velvet rope isn’t easy, especially when big names such as Bono from U2 come by.

  • 8. Barneys New York

Max out your credit card while keeping an eye out for superstars and celebrities at this luxurious department store. All the major designers from Armani to Helmut Lang and Dolce & Gabbana are represented here. Take in the nice views from the outdoor tables in the rooftop deli.

  • 9. LA Lakers Games at Staples Center

The Los Angeles Lakers, the city’s fabled basketball team, always attract a fair number of celebrities to its games at the Staples Center. Number One fan, Jack Nicholson, can usually be spotted courtside, and Denzel Washington and Eddie Murphy are regulars. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lopez, and Ben Affleck have also made appearances.

  • 10. Chateau Marmont & Bar Marmont

Celebrities have flocked to this European-style hotel like moths to the flame since its opening way back in 1929. Famed for its discretion, it has remained a favorite spot for celebrity trysts. Check out the chic Bar Marmont (see Chateau Marmont, Bar Marmont, Chateau Marmont).
