  • 2. Dublin’s

This cavernous Irish pub is party central thanks to strong drinks and a relatively relaxed door policy. The sports bar downstairs has pool tables and pub grub.

  • 3. The Lounge at the Standard

The entertainment at this hotel hot spot includes performance art by a barely clothed beauty on view in a glass booth above the reception, and dancing.

  • 4. House of Blues

The original HOB branch has an eclectic schedule of performers, including long-time favorites such as Joan Armatrading and the Bangles. The Sunday Gospel brunch is an institution.

  • 5. Sky Bar

Famous for its poolside cocktails, celebrity crowd, and sweeping city views, getting past the velvet rope here is a tall order.

  • 6. Saddle Ranch Chop House

A Texas-style steakhouse popular with families until 10pm, after which it becomes a lively night-time hangout complete with mechanical bull.

  • 7. Viper Room

Celebrity musicians such as Bruce Springsteen stage concerts at Johnny Depp’s club (see Viper Room, Viper Room).

  • 8. Whisky a Go-Go

LA’s epicenter of rock’n’roll in the 1960s, this club was the springboard for the Doors and still books new bands.

  • 9. The Roxy

Serious music fans love this no-nonsense club where the focus is on the show, not the decor or the crowd.

  • 10. Key Club

This glitzy three-story club plays live rock as well as DJ-spun dance music.
