  • Behind the rather stark walls of this 500-year-old building, you’ll find a delightful garden and spacious rooms with antiques and modern comforts. The area is great for discovering out-of-the-way places.

  • Set on its own crescent of sugary beach, with absolutely nothing else around. There’s also a large pool built out on a deck over the sea. The rooms are smallish, but most have sea views. Very popular with families, with lots of activities on offer for kids. Guests are mostly German.

  • Attached to the Reserva Rotana, whose pool it shares, this old farmer’s stone house has been updated for every comfort. The rooms are large and rustic, and like a home-from-home.

  • A stylish establishment, with beamed ceilings, a terrace with a sea view, and lush gardens. Its elegant patios are graced with antiques and ceramics, and the rooms are quiet and comfortable.

  • Large, quasi-resort hotel just steps away from a broad beach with pure waters. The decor is lowkey and traditional; each room has its own balcony with views. Sometimes there’s live music and dancing in the evenings.

  • One of Mallorca’s most lavish hotels, set in a 16th-century palace behind the Cathedral. Sumptuous period antiques and architectural features abound, including stained-glass bathrooms and huge Jacuzzis in some suites.

  • The rooms are modern, but this country house has kept its old wine cellars and stone floors. A sense of timelessness settles over everything as you laze by the pool and listen to the wind in the palms.

  • Where else does a trompe-l’oeil lion gaze on you affectionately as you enjoy your Jacuzzi? Elegant yet unostentatious, this is Mallorcan resort living at its finest, where the staff take a genuine interest in your comfort. Its restaurant is also one Mallorca’s best (see Read’s, Santa Maria del Camí).

  • It’s a one hour walk from the Clot d’Almendra to this place, which gives access to the highest summits of the range. The house, an old mountain construction, has been modernized with an en-suite double room and two rooms with bunks for 8 and 12 people. There is heating, and guests can cook their own meals or eat at the restaurant.

  • Located on a farm on the outskirts of Bunyola, the shelters consist of four rustic houses that can accommodate small groups of up to seven. There are showers, a kitchen and small lounge.
