  • 1. Ben Amics Association

This group provides Mallorca with its rainbow hotline – only two hours a day, weekdays, but it’s a great connection for new arrivals. There are get-togethers from time to time, including a sort of café that opens sporadically.

  • 2. Café Lorca

Just off Plaça Gomila, and down a few steps, this friendly hangout is where locals congregate, so it’s a good chance to find out what the scene is really like from those who live it.

  • 3. Aries Hotel, Club & Sauna

A large, comfortable hotel, with its own nightclub and exclusively gay sauna, located on the street that’s action-central for gay life on the island. The friendly staff are Scandinavian, Dutch, English, German and other nationalities, and they all do their best to create a fun atmosphere.

  • 4. Marcus

The subdued lighting in violet tones and the classical statuary dotted around may seem a bit passé, but there’s always a good turnout, usually of 30- and 40-somethings. It’s a quiet alternative to the mostly frenetic life in the other bars and clubs.

  • 5. Flesh

A lively choice – probably because of the gay videos that are always playing. The place is open to the street at one end, so there always seems to be something happening or about to happen.

  • 6. Rosamar Hotel & Bar

This rainbow hotel is the place to stay if you want to be where all the action is. Its patio bar is where the international mix of young and beautiful A-list gays congregates before heading off to the dance floor.

  • 7. Papillon

The age of the denizens tends to be in the 20s, but there’s also a good representation of older revellers at this upbeat disco. The music keeps the mood light, in accordance with the name and the decor. There’s no cover charge, and its always shoulder-to-shoulder crowded.

  • 8. GE

A heavy-duty club veering towards black leather and thumping music to go with the macho attitude. The downstairs “Inferno” room is the place for over-the-top partying.

  • 9. Black Cat

The cover charge here will get you in not only to dance and check everybody out, but also to be regaled with a stage show that generally features both drag acts and male “exotic dancers”.

  • 10. El Sombrero

Palma’s nod to the island’s lesbian visitors. The atmosphere is more low-key than in most of the gay bars, with equal emphasis on conversation as well as fun. Like everywhere else, however, things don’t really get going until at least midnight.
