  • Linda Little can find you a place to stay for as little as $55 a night. She’s got vacation rentals all over Maui and on some other islands too, and can also help with rental cars.

  • This beachfront resort, part of the local Aston chain, offers the choice of hotel or condo-style accommodations. There are laundry facilities, a sundry store, an activities desk, restaurant, and a children’s program too.

  • Dorm rooms, shared baths, communal kitchen, big garden, clean, comfortable, and safe, this is the place for the young, or youngish, backpacking and windsurfing set. Located in Central Maui, the hostel even offers free tours.

  • Banyan Tree House

Set among fabulous old plantation homes lining Baldwin Avenue, this property offers three rooms in its main house and four cottages. There’s a formal dining room and living room as well as a wellequipped kitchen in the main house.

  • A three-bedroom house and a two-bedroom cottage just a garden walk away form a perfect partnership for a large family or group of friends. Both are extremely well equipped and tastefully decorated. A little traffic noise by day and chilly at night, so the fireplaces come in handy.

  • Camp Ke’anae

One of Maui’s bestkept secrets. The location is absolutely fantastic: a cliff overlooking the Ke’anae Peninsula, where you can rent one of the attractive cabins or pitch a tent and use the community bath facilities.

  • For a large family or group, this two-story home within walking distance of town may be just the ticket. Four bedrooms (the master suite has its own bath and patio), a large deck surrounded by pines, an outdoor shower, and a big kitchen. Can accommodate 8.

  • A big pink pyramidal allsuite hotel. Included with your suite is a complimentary poolside breakfast buffet and afternoon cocktail reception. For the more healthy minded, there’s a gym, a beauty salon, and a spa.

  • Located in Maui Meadows (an upscale residential area), all the rooms here have private baths and separate living rooms. There’s a heated pool, a Jacuzzi, and fresh breakfast foods are left in the fridge each day.

  • Four Seasons Resort at Wailea

Beyond the lovely grounds, excellent facilities, and comfortable rooms, you’ll find one of chef Wolfgang Puck’s celebrated Spago restaurants. The new spa now features a minimalist, Zen-like environment.
