  • Kā’anapali’s first ever luxury resort hotel underwent an extensive renovation several years ago. Now, almost all the 510 rooms face the ocean, and furnishings are reminiscent of old Hawai’i, utilizing bamboo, rattan, and kapa designs. Much of the hotel sits about 80 ft above sea level on a black lava outcropping known as Keka’a.

  • This agency handles vacation rentals as well as real estate sales. So, if you’d like to rent a private home almost anywhere on the island, the folks at Swenson will be able to help.

  • Every guest suite (and they’re all suites here) has a bedroom, large marble bath with a deep soaking tub, and a separate living room with a full entertainment system. A very good fish restaurant too.

  • The Lodge at Kī’ele

Nestled among Cook pines and banyan trees, this secluded retreat is especially lauded for its service. Rooms and suites have four-poster beds and luscious feather pillows. The Great Room is grand indeed, with lots of nooks and crannies in which to relax with a good book. The dining is excellent, as are the recreational facilities.

  • The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono

Janice and Tom Fairbanks have lovingly transformed their 1924 home into seven singular guestrooms, complete with Hawaiian quilts and some whirlpool tubs. Three rooms in a new addition feature standing spas. Full, and incredibly delicious, breakfast included.

  • The activities of Hawaiian cultural specialist Clifford Nae’ole set this hotel apart and afford guests a chance to learn about and experience Hawaiian culture. As you’d expect, there are also beautiful grounds, a plethora of amenities, dining choices, and a spa.

  • Cascading waterfalls, an opulent lobby, and an extraordinary 55,000 sq ft of interconnected pools. Rooms are well appointed and have the chain’s own Heavenly Beds, which promise you won’t make it past the second page of your book.

  • Spacious accommodations, hotel-like services, and a perfect location smack in the middle of Kā’anapali Beach keep these older high-rises popular year after year. There’s a small heated pool and five tennis courts on the property.

  • These California-style condos are great for sporty types – the sprawling complex of low-rise buildings overlooks Wailea’s golf and tennis facilities, and there are two pools on site. The accommodations are upscale and very comfortable.

  • This resort is undergoing major renovations until mid-2006, however rooms will still be available during this period. A large foot spa, adult-only infinity pool, and a freestanding oceanfront restaurant will be added.
