  • 1. Mama’s Fish House

Standing on an awesome beachfront, the view, fresh fish, huge portions, and the kitschy Hawaiian decor have kept diners happy for years.

  • 2. Moana Café

Off the beaten path, but well worth a detour for the fresh, unfussy, well-prepared food. The baked goods and fish specials are always good bets here.

  • 3. Charley’s

Gigantic, home-style breakfasts, pizza, and burgers, along with the possible company of Willie Nelson or Kris Kristofferson, both of whom have been known to drop in.

  • 4. Pa’uwela Café

It’s not an easy place to find, but specialties like the kālua turkey sandwich and BAKER Becky Speere’s delightful pastries make it more than worth the trouble.

  • 5. Hana Hou Café

One of Maui’s few places to serve traditional Hawaiian foods like kālua pork, poi , and laulau .There’s a good mix of other ethnic dishes, like pasta and sashimi, too.

  • 6. Hāli’imaile General Store

Smack in the middle of a pineapple plantation 1,200 ft up Haleakalā, Beverly Gannon’s superb Hawai’i regional cooking with international influences ensures that this is a trek well worth making.

  • 7. Duncan’s

A popular gathering place for coffee and pastries, breakfasts, light lunches, and, in the evening, a sushi menu.

  • 8. Komoda’s Bakery

Everyone but everyone comes here for the cream puffs. But come early – nearly everything sells out before lunchtime.

  • 9. Polli’s

All things Mexican – including big, frothy margaritas – are served at this down-home favorite. Be sure to try the cashew garlic salad dressing and tasty salsa.

  • 10. Casanova Italian Restaurant & Deli

The deli serves great cappuccino, delicious breakfasts, and light lunches. And the adjacent restaurant serves delectable pizzas from a wood-fired oven, creative Italian fare, and fresh fish nightly.
