Top 10 Moloka’i & Lāna’i Accommodations
-
1. Hotel Moloka’i
The only central hotel on the island. It’s a local favorite because of its location, low rates, and fabulous Friday night entertainment. The accommodations are clean but extremely basic. The Oceanfront Dining Room – and it certainly is oceanfront! – serves delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
-
2. Moloka’i Shores
A well-landscaped, lowrise condominium complex. The units are individually owned (as is the case pretty much throughout the island). For the most part, the decor is fine, often tropical in flavor, and the units are very well equipped.
-
3. Swenson Real Estate
This agency handles vacation rentals as well as real estate sales. So, if you’d like to rent a private home almost anywhere on the island, the folks at Swenson will be able to help.
-
4. Paniolo Hale
This condominium complex on Moloka’i ’s west side is an especially good choice for families. The variously sized units are individually owned but bookable through a “vacation rental pool.” The complex is nicely landscaped, and there’s a swimming pool too.
-
5. Moloka’i Lodge & Beach Village
The best place to stay on Moloka’i. The rooms and public spaces in the lodge combine the charm of old Hawai’i with modern luxury. You’ll find all the expected resort amenities – pool, gym, beautiful dining room, and a fabulous Great Room. If you prefer to be nearer the beach, your accommodation will be an individual deluxe canvas bungalow.
-
6. Ke Nani Kai
All the condos here have kitchens, balconies, and cable TV. Laundry facilities too, as well as barbecues, a putting green, tennis courts, and a swimming pool.
-
7. The Lodge at Kī’ele
Nestled among Cook pines and banyan trees, this secluded retreat is especially lauded for its service. Rooms and suites have four-poster beds and luscious feather pillows. The Great Room is grand indeed, with lots of nooks and crannies in which to relax with a good book. The dining is excellent, as are the recreational facilities.
-
8. Hotel Lāna’i
A lovely, refurbished 11-room hotel. Built in 1923, this historic building was originally a lodging for Dole Plantation executives. Today, it’s home to Henry Clay’s Rotisserie, an excellent choice of restaurant, regardless of where you stay.
-
9. Captain’s Retreat
For a large family or group, this two-story home within walking distance of town may be just the ticket. Four bedrooms (the master suite has its own bath and patio), a large deck surrounded by pines, an outdoor shower, and a big kitchen. Can accommodate 8.
-
10. Mānele Bay Hotel
This big, typical resort hotel will get you as close as you can get to the beach on Lāna’i. The rooms are large and luxurious, with marble baths and balconies, though possibly in need of a little freshening up.
