  • 1. Saeng’s Thai Cuisine

Good Thai food in an enjoyable, open-air, gardenlike setting.

  • 2. Asian Star

Simply delectable Vietnamese food at great prices. Try the tangerine beef or sesame chicken.

  • 3. Tokyo Tei

You won’t find fresher sashimi, more luscious salmon teriyaki, friendlier service, or better value anywhere on Maui than at this family owned Wailuku institution.

  • 4. Main Street Bistro

Refined American comfort food served in a bistro atmosphere, and prepared by well-known and well-respected chef Tom Selman. Sure bets include “capital” onion rings, slow-cooked baby back ribs, and macaroni and cheese.

  • 5. Stillwell’s Bakery & Café

Sometimes, you just want a fresh, crisp salad or a thick, hearty sandwich – so head for this place on the border between Wailuku and Kahului. Operated by top pastry chef, Roy Stillwell and his wife, it would be a crime to bypass dessert here.

  • 6. Maui Arts & Cultural Center

This $30-million complex houses several theaters and an art gallery. Everyone from Tony Bennett to the Brothers Cazimero perform here; there’s something going on every day.

  • 7. A Saigon Café

Vietnamese “burritos,” whole steamed fish, fried lobster, rice bowl, and other specialties have all found their way into the hearts – and bellies – of locals. Unusually for Maui, the café stays open right through from lunch to dinner.

  • 8. Ruby’s Diner

A cool, sleek, 1950s style burger joint (part of a regional chain), which serves up huge breakfast platters, juicy burgers, crisp fries, shakes, and giant salads.

  • 9. Marco’s Grill & Deli

A favorite for Italian sandwiches, pasta, veal, chicken, and fish dishes, plus calorie-packed desserts.

  • 10. Maui Coffee Roasters

A funky place offering bagels, wraps, and the best coffee on Maui.
