  • 1. Mercado Jamaica

    Beautiful and vibrantly colorful, this is the city’s wholesale flower market. Every imaginable type of seasonal flower grown in the country can be seen here in dazzling abundance. Always excessive, the profusion of blooms of every hue reaches amazing crescendos at major holidays and festivals.

  • 2. Mercado de la Merced

    With crowded narrow paths between small booths offering towering piles of brilliantly colored and artfully displayed merchandise of every kind, a visit to Mexico City’s main wholesale and retail market is as much a cultural experience as it is a shopping one.

  • 3. Mercado Sonora

    Known as the “Witches Market”, locals come to this market to buy a broad variety of herbs, herbal remedies, folk medicine, and treatments. Everything required to cast a spell, conjure up love, restore health, or obtain wealth can be found here.

  • 4. Mercado de Coyoacán

    This neighborhood market is friendly and attractive. Many traditional Mexican wares, such as sombreros, brilliant rugs, and whimsical piñatas (papier-mâché figures filled with treats) are sold. The food stalls are a big attraction. On weekends there is a craft market at the Jardín del Centenario .

  • 5. Mercado Xochitl

    Lively and colorful, this neighborhood market offers meat, poultry, sausage, spices, fruits, and flowers of exceptional quality that are grown along the Xochimilco canals.

  • 6. Mercado Insurgentes

    This indoor market is best known for the glittering displays of fine silver jewelry, pendants, earrings, and bracelets that are artistically displayed and brightly illuminated. There are also silver bowls, platters, tableware, and sculptures. In some booths you can watch silversmiths at work.

  • 7. Mercado San Juan

    An artisan’s cooperative, the indoor booths of the market fill two floors offering traditional handmade goods such as finely crafted silver jewelry, painted ceramics, and woven textiles.

  • 8. Mercado de Artesanías de la Ciudadela

    The largest gathering of souvenir and handicraft vendors in the Centro Histórico area, this semi-open market offers a variety of traditional items.

  • 9. Jardín de Arte

    This weekly outdoor art market in the Plaza del Carmen has artists lining the walkways with their works. Of high quality and brilliant hues, the subjects of the paintings range from historical Mexican scenes to contemporary themes.

  • 10. Bazar de Sábado

    A very popular weekly (only on Saturdays) artisan and handicrafts market, it also has a charming courtyard and an excellent restaursant. Bazar de Sábado technically refers to the skilled craftsmen in the building, however, many of the outdoor booths have excellent wares as well.
