Miami

At its best, Miami is all pastel hues and warm, velvety zephyrs – a tropical reverie. The culture is sensuous and physical, often spiked with Caribbean rhythms and accents. Outdoor activities hold sway throughout the area, at the world-famous beaches and in the turquoise waters; the vibrant nightlife, too, attracts pleasure-seekers, while significant historical sights are around every corner.

  • Key Largo Hammocks State Botanical Site

The largest remaining stand of tropical West Indian hardwood and mangrove is a refuge for protected indigenous flora and fauna.

  • Fun and funky, with a beachy feel. Dishes include a tri-color vegetarian terrine and chicken voodoo. Sunday jazz brunch, too.

  • The Key lime looks more like a lemon but makes the most exquisite pie.

  • Rich in history and breathtaking beauty, the self-styled Conch (pronounced “conk”) Republic seems truly a world apart from the rest of the US

  • Key West

This mythic isle lives up to its reputation as the most outlandishly free spot in the US. A frothy mix of maritime traditions and laid-back style.

  • A company that has made their own all-natural products right here since 1971, without any animal testing.

  • The Touch Tank is a great attraction for children, allowing them to pick up starfish, native conchs, and horseshoe crabs. Elsewhere, they even get the chance to pet a live shark. When it opened, in 1934, this was Key West’s first tourist attraction, and it continues to draw capacity crowds, not only for its hands-on features, but also for the highly entertaining and educational guided tours. Seeing the amazing and rare sawfish go to work during feeding time is not to be missed.

  • Key West Beaches

Key West’s relatively modest beaches are lined up along the southern side of the island, stretching from Fort Zachary Taylor State Park in the west to Smathers Beach in the east. The latter is the largest and most popular, but locals favor the former because it’s less crowded. For convenience, the beach at the bottom of Duval Street, at the Southernmost Point in the US, is fine, friendly, and full of refreshment options.

  • For two weeks leading up to Halloween, Key West gives itself over to non-stop celebration. Then, on the Saturday before the 31st, a parade, featuring lavish floats and outlandish costumes, departs from Mallory Square and slowly winds down Duval Street. In a spirit of free abandon, many revelers go nude, except for a bit of body paint here and a feather or two there.

  • Key West Hand Print

In one of the few brick buildings that survived the great fire of 1886, this huge store sells hand-printed fabrics and fashions.
