  • Since the Keys are almost entirely surrounded by America’s largest living coral reef, the underwater world is one of the main treats the area has to offer.

  • SoBe Streetlife

Almost synonymous with the Deco District. All the action is concentrated in three areas: Ocean Drive and the parallel streets of Collins and Washington (where most of the clubs are); the seductive Lincoln Road and the Española Way pedestrian malls (see SoBe Life & Española Way Market).

  • South Pointe Park Beach

Though not well known for its beaches, the park’s northern part is popular with surfers, and you can watch cruise ships gliding in and out of the Port of Miami. It’s also great for walks, and there’s a fitness course, an observation tower, charcoal grills, picnic spots, and playgrounds.

  • Homestead Miami Speedway hosts several big events every year.

  • More noteworthy for its 1950s’ tourist-resort kitsch than for its rocky sand, this strip is popular with older tourists, as well as surfers and sailors. Souvenir shops and hotels indulge in campy architectural fancies, featuring exotic themes along Collins (A1A) between 160th & 185th Streets.

  • Some of the best beaches in the world are found in the Keys. Don’t worry if the ocean temperature happens to fall below the usual 79°F (26°C) – most hotels have heated swimming pools.

  • The hotel pool or the surging gray-blue Atlantic Ocean? This is Florida, and swimming is number one – snorkeling, too, in quieter areas, especially Crandon Park on Key Biscayne and off South Pointe.

  • The Nasdaq-100 Open is one of the world’s biggest non-Grand Slam tournaments.

  • There are plenty of tennis courts all over the islands.

  • Good tennis clubs can be found on just about every developed Key – on Islamorada at MM 76.8 bayside, Marathon at MM 53.5 oceanside, on Key West, of course, and elsewhere.
