  • The Breakers and Four Seasons hotels both offer snorkeling options along the Palm Beach coast.

  • Although only a few species are natives – the royal palm, the sabal palm, the saw palmetto, and the thatch palm – a huge range of imported palms now adorn the islands.

  • Parasailing

    As close to growing wings as you can get, parasailing in the Keys is easy, safe, and unforgettable. Many small companies offer the experience, such as Sebago, on the Key West Bight.

  • A thoroughly enjoyable place, recently relocated to Biscayne Bay, with a petting zoo for children to get close to the animals.

  • The “Sport of Kings” is well represented in posh Palm Beach County.

  • Boca Raton is famous for its extensive and beautifully maintained parks, and its Red Reef Park offers some of the best beaches and snorkeling in the area. An artificial reef, clearly marked on the park’s visitor map, can provide hours of delightful undersea viewing and is suitable for youngsters. The Gumbo Limbo Environmental Education Center is just across the street.

  • This wonderful park in Boca Raton contains the Gumbo Limbo Center, which offers nature walks over a coastal hammock (raised area). There is also an artificial reef.

  • Routes North

    There are three ways to make your way by car north from Miami: Interstate 95 is the fastest, unless it’s rush hour, but is really only to be used if you have a certain destination in mind. Highway 1 is closer to the sea, but is lined with local businesses practically all the way, so the stop-and-go traffic can be a real drag. A1A, however, makes the time spent decidedly worthwhile, rewarding the traveler with a range of natural beauty and elegant neighborhoods of the Gold and Treasure Coasts (see Gold Coast Highway A1A & A1A North along the Treasure Coast).

  • These goodnatured, long-lived creatures come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. From the largest to the smallest they are the leatherback, the loggerhead, the green, the hawksbill, and the Ridley turtles.

  • At the heart of any floridean road trip, the seven mile bridge linking the Florida Mainland and Key West is a stunning journey, flanked either side by the sea for the full seven miles.
