  • Miami’s contender in the National Football League is the Miami Dolphins.

  • Fort Lauderdale Waters

Fort Lauderdale has been awarded the Blue Wave Beaches certification for spotless sands and crystal waters, which add up to superior underwater viewing. Many of the most interesting parts of the three-tiered natural reef system here are close to the shore, though most require a short boat ride. In addition, more than 80 artificial reefs have been built to enhance the growth of marine flora and fauna. Ocean Promotion is one of the companies organizing snorkeling and scuba trips.

  • The only tropical botanical garden of its kind in the United States. The plants are grouped by country of origin, and the tropical climate here sustains over 100 varieties of citrus plant, 65 of banana, and 40 of grape. The park also houses the largest bamboo collection in the US. In the store you’ll find imported fruit products, including dried and canned fruit, juices, jams, teas, and unusual seeds.

  • No end of opportunities throughout South Florida. Many resorts have their own courses; one of the best in Greater Miami is the Jacaranda Golf Club in Plantation, voted South Florida’s Golf Club of the Year.

  • Golf courses are not as ubiquitous in the Keys as in the rest of Florida, but there are several good ones, for example on Marathon Key at MM 53.5 oceanside or a more expensive course on Key West.

  • So that he could play golf year-round is the main reason that Jackie Gleason moved to Miami. The Crandon Golf Course is one of the best.

  • This unmistakable tree is found all over the Keys – called the “tourist tree” because its bark is red and peeling.

  • Haulover Park Beach

Haulover has been spared the sight of high-rise development. The dune-backed beach lies along the eastern side of the park, and to the north it has become the only nude beach in the county, part of it gay.

  • Herons

These elegant birds include the great blue heron (white phase, too), the little blue heron, the tri-colored heron, the greenbacked heron, and the blackcrowned night heron.

  • windsurfers, Virginia Key – neighbor to Key Biscayne and similarly shrouded in Australian pines – has no residents and few visitors. Under Old South segregation, it was the only Miami beach African-Americans were allowed to use. Once you walk through the vegetation, the 2-mile (3-km) beach here is fine and relatively empty. Both are excellent for children due to the warm bay waters, but Virginia Key has deep waters and possible undertow.
