  • Lush tropical luxury right on its own flawless beach, with two pools, tennis courts, shuffleboard, and a complete spa. Rooms are very large, most with great views. Superb restaurants featuring exceptional Italian cuisine at Acquario and Black Angus steaks at Chops. Very popular with families – book well in advance.

  • Another clothing-optional, gay-males-only, “happening” resort comprising 10 restored houses a block off Duval Street.

  • SoBe’s biggest Deco tower, newly built, is located on a sandy beach in the heart of it all. The multifaceted property incorporates an old hotel – the rebuilt St. Moritz – six restaurants and an outlandishly beautiful, mosaic-tile, oceanfront swimming pool.

  • Located on Brickell Key (Claughton Island), near the Port of Miami and Downtown. The curved building means most rooms have a water view. Check the website for special rates and packages.

  • Built in 1884, the extravagant compound of four exquisitely restored “conch” houses is now set amid lush greenery. All rooms and suites have marble bathrooms.

  • Set on top of an exclusive shopping mall, the hotel’s large suites have rich mahogany furniture, marble baths, and balconies. The style is a pleasing mix of Spain and the Far East, enhanced by Art Nouveau touches.

  • One of the cheapest places right in the middle of the SoBe action, this hostel radiates a funloving atmosphere of camaraderie, even though it is a bit grotty. Amenities include Internet access, kitchen, and laundry.

  • One of the more sober Deco edifices, built in 1938 and impeccably restored with every comfort. The rooms are done in a tastefully subdued Post-Modern style by noted designer Peter Page, who also restored other South Beach landmarks.

  • Well north of South Beach, this appealing 1940 Nautical-Deco boutique hotel is right on the ocean. Restored in 1997, the serviceably decorated rooms offer mini-fridges, safes, and cable TV. Continental breakfast is included.

  • A marvelous collection of properties including the Southernmost Hotel, Southernmost on the Beach, La Mer House, and Dewey House. Each has its own character, but all have the charm to create oases of serenity within this island’s highpitched energy.
