  • The colonial-style hotel may seem incongruous on South Beach, but it was actually built at the same time as its Deco siblings: it just took a different fantasy turn.

  • The amenities are little better than camping out, but this is a chance to get up close and personal with the Everglades.

  • A beautiful landmark structure with the splendor and glamour of a by-gone era and epicurean pleasures, too, in the Palme d’Or restaurant. Rooms are in the grand European tradition, and you can swim in the world’s largest hotel pool.

  • The original buildings were built by one of Florida’s early visionaries, Addison Mizner, in 1926. The mix of Mediterranean styles has been carried through, and opulent, fabled luxury is everywhere, down to the marble bathrooms with original polished brass fittings.

  • This Art Deco gem is located in the heart of lively South Beach. Facilities include valet parking, business facilities, and a health and fitness center. Rooms are comfortable and the penthouse has a jacuzzi bath and private sundeck.

  • Brigham Gardens Guesthouse, SoBe

A true find in sometimes overdone SoBe. Very laid back and super-friendly, the place feels more like it’s in the islands somewhere remote, yet you’re just a block away from the beach intensity. The rooms have great character, and there’s a tranquil garden to relax in. Book well in advance.

  • No pool, no lobby, no frills, but it’s clean, comfortable, bright, secure, within easy walking distance of most places in Old Town, and the vernacular architecture is appealing. All rooms have a kitchenette.

  • With its festive Deco façade wrapped around a corner, this little find has one of the most enviable locations in South Beach. Comfortable, rather stylish rooms, and very efficient and professional service. Clark Gable once stayed here.

  • A collection of wood-frame cottages, set among tropical palms and just steps from a faultless beach.

  • A Mediterranean-style, adults-only B&B perfectly situated on a sandy beach. The décor features high, open-beam ceilings, screened porches, rich carpets, and lazy ceiling fans.
