  • Not just a delightfully complete bookstore, but also a snack and coffee bar, and just a great place to hang out.

  • The most atmospheric and mysterious of the botánicas along the main section of Calle Ocho (see Calle Ocho, Little Havana &Santería and Vodou Botánicas).

  • There are at least seven record shops between 11th and 17th streets, each with outside speakers, keeping the street energy on high. Cubans seem to live for music, and Casino does its level best to provide the Latin sounds in the largest quantities.

  • Collins and 7th Street, SoBe

For your upscale shopping convenience, all the SoBe boutiques that seriously matter are clustered around intersection.

  • Collins Avenue at 7th Street, South Beach

The block or two around this intersection has all the designer boutiques you’ll ever need, from Versace Jeans Couture to Club Monaco, with its carefully selected knockoffs. Also check out the side-street stores.

  • “Savor the flavor of paradise” is their motto, and this old factory probably does, in fact, turn out the next best thing to a genuine Cuban stogie. Prices range from $3 to $10.75 for a single cigar.

  • Since Key West is closer to Cuba than to the Florida mainland, it makes sense to find a Cuban crafts shop here, despite the official embargo. Items include handmade boxes, dolls, and paintings.

  • Fear not! There is a Saks Fifth Avenue even way down in South Miami – plus some 170 high-end specialty shops and several other fine anchor stores, including Florida’s largest Burdine’s. Unless you’re shopping on the cheap, just ignore the fact that there’s also a JC Penney, a Radio Shack, and a Best Buy. The décor is pleasing, if a bit predictable – palm-tree pillars and ceilings painted to resemble skies.

  • Dania Beach Historic Antiques District

Here is South Florida’s largest concentration of antiques shops. More than 100 dealers offer an array of furniture, fine art, and jewelry, as well as glass, pottery and china, and various other collectibles. Prices vary greatly, so shop around for bargains.

  • Situated in the heart of the action is a boutique of SoBe style, haute hip club-gear for the fashionably proactive of both sexes.
