Nowher else on earth seems to be so happily addicted to glamour as Miami Beach. All the traits of modern life are here, pushed to the limit: symbols of speed, wealth, and status are vaunted everywhere you look in this body-conscious, sexually charged resort. Key Biscayne, the next big island to the south, provides a stark contast to the dynamism and self-consciousness of its neighbor; here you will find a tranquil and family-oriented atmosphere pervading parks, perfect beaches, and a scattering of museums.

More on the Deco District
  • This Miami hotspot is where nude men dance for men. There are 25 male performers. The show starts at 7pm and it is nonstop action until closing time at 5am.

  • Situated in the heart of the action is a boutique of SoBe style, haute hip club-gear for the fashionably proactive of both sexes.

  • Solid Italian fare. Swordfish carpaccio, asparagus flan, and risotto are hits (see Escopazzo, South Beach).

  • If your visit to Miami stimulates a taste for Latin music, this is the place to indulge it.

  • Deep-sea fishing out in the ocean, or the more conventional kind off a jetty or pier – both are readily available. The jetty or Sunshine Pier at First Street Beach on Miami Beach is good, or the breaker area just south of the Lighthouse on Key Biscayne.

  • Get yourself a pair of in-line skates, to rent or buy, and take some free lessons (Sunday mornings). Scooters available, too.

  • Many consider the breakfast here to be the best in South Beach. The atmosphere’s homey, and the food’s definitely worth the wait.

  • So that he could play golf year-round is the main reason that Jackie Gleason moved to Miami. The Crandon Golf Course is one of the best.

  • Winding along the western shore, this is the heart of Key Biscayne’s upscale residential district. The lucky ones with houses on the outer side of the road have magnificent views of Downtown Miami from their back gardens. Although the area has its share of mansions, most of the houses are more modestly proportioned. Still, it’s a rarefied neighborhood where flocks of ibis can be found picking away on someone’s lawn.

  • Not exclusively gay every night of the week, but Jade is gay-friendly and has a gay night on Fridays. This two-story lounge has three Zen Balinese-themed rooms, featuring paintings by local artists.
