  • 1. Collins Avenue at 7th Street, South Beach

The block or two around this intersection has all the designer boutiques you’ll ever need, from Versace Jeans Couture to Club Monaco, with its carefully selected knockoffs. Also check out the side-street stores.

  • 2. DD of Ocean Drive

Situated in the heart of the action is a boutique of SoBe style, haute hip club-gear for the fashionably proactive of both sexes.

  • 3. South Beach News and Tobacco

A convenience store, but the stars are the cigars, either hand-rolled on the premises or imported from everywhere but Cuba.

  • 4. Art Deco District Welcome Center

A treasure-trove of Deco kitsch to take home as your very own. Everything from cutesy salt-&-pepper sets to really rather nice reproduction lamps.

  • 5. South Beach Couture

A couple of blocks off the beach and so, presumably, a bit less costly, but the names are the same: Versace, Armani, D&G, DKNY – fine clothing for men and women. Shirts start at about $85.

  • 6. Kafka’s Used Book Store & Cyber Café

Yes, books in the middle of South Beach, and a reference to Franz Kafka, no less. Just in case you suddenly start feeling intellectual on the beach.

  • 7. Esperanto Music

If your visit to Miami stimulates a taste for Latin music, this is the place to indulge it.

  • 8. Frit’s Skate Shop

Get yourself a pair of in-line skates, to rent or buy, and take some free lessons (Sunday mornings). Scooters available, too.

  • 9. The 9th Chakra

The mystic arts are here, everything from prophecy to realignment through crystals, and feng shui – all the apparatus and books you may require. Ask what the store’s name is about for a quick lesson in metaphysics.

  • 10. Key Biscayne

The Square Shopping Center, 260 Crandon Boulevard, and several other generic types nearby are just about all that you’ll find on Key Biscayne. They contain a few art galleries, small clothing boutiques, and the usual mix of banks, chain stores, and dentists.
