  • 1. Le Café de Paris, Fort Lauderdale

This family-owned French restaurant has been around for more than 30 years, offering good food and good value. The escargot appetizer is especially delicious.

  • 2. Swamp Water Café, Everglades

Genuine swamp food: alligator tail nuggets, catfish filets, froglegs, and even some local venison.

  • 3. Rod and Gun Club, Everglades

Set in a classic Florida frontier hotel, with great views. Fresh fish sandwiches (soft-shell crab or succulent grouper) a specialty.

A gourmet restaurant on the campus of a great culinary school. Try the escargot in a garlic and white wine cream sauce.

  • 5. Sinclair’s Ocean Grill, Jupiter

Indoor or patio dining. The cuisine is traditional Floribbean – a bit of Caribbean, Pacific Rim, and Floridian.

  • 6. The Dock at Crayton Cove, Naples

More Floribbean crossover cuisine, with macadamia fried goat cheese and Jamaican jerk chicken quesadilla.

  • 7. The Veranda, Fort Myers

Charming restaurant, with Deep South décor. The artichoke fritter stuffed with blue crab is outstanding.

  • 8. Key Lime Bistro, Captiva

Fun and funky, with a beachy feel. Dishes include a tri-color vegetarian terrine and chicken voodoo. Sunday jazz brunch, too.

  • 9. Alice’s at La-Te-Da, Key West

Alice Weingarten creates culinary magic, with her signature fusion cuisine, all set in a romantic garden atmosphere.

  • 10. Colonial Dining Room, Clewiston

Fresh fish from Lake Okeechobee, and a genteel air. Antiques and antebellum-style reproductions abound.
