  • 1. Red Fish Grill

One of Miami’s most romantic spots, nestled amid the tropical magic of Matheson Hammock Park. Great, freshly caught fish, prepared lovingly with a Caribbean flair, and a range of other dishes.

  • 2. La Porteña

Traditional Argentine parrillada , but also things like ostrich, caviar crêpes stuffed with mascarpone and Manchego cheeses, and savory mussels sautéed with roasted garlic.

  • 3. Shula’s Steak House

A beautifully appointed restaurant, with lots of Miami Dolphins memorablilia (it’s owned by a former coach). As for the food, there is plenty of meat, including a giant 48 oz (1.35 kg) steak.

  • 4. Tropical Chinese

The food is Chinese and excellent, the setting tropical, big, and busy. Expect abalone, shrimp with garlic and spinach in clay pots, seafood tofu soup, and more.

  • 5. Trattoria Sole

The baby spinach salad with raisins and pinenuts works well, as does the polenta with wild boar sausage.

  • 6. Guadalajara

Original, homecooked Mexican fare in a locale full of character. The portions are huge, so just an appetizer might do. Try dipping a warm tortilla in a queso fundido (cheese fondue).

  • 7. Saffron

Enjoy Persian and Mediterannean cuisine in this friendly neighborhood restaurant. The beef stew is delicious.

  • 8. Grappa

Cozy Italian with a full South Florida-inspired menu. Finish off with the eponymous firewater – chilled grappa.

  • 9. Sushi Maki

Good sushi at reasonable prices. The volcano roll is a creamy, multi-fish treat, or choose from 30 other creative rolls.

  • 10. Cauley Square Tea Room

A light and lacy setting in a period cottage. Order hot crabmeat au gratin, a large tuna-nut salad, or a shrimp platter. Open for lunch only.
