  • 1. Hotel Astor, SoBe

Stay just a couple of blocks away from the beach and get a topquality 1936 Deco gem for much less outlay. Rooms are large and fully soundproofed, bathrooms have marble walls and floors, and the pool area has gardenia hedges and night-blooming jasmine.

  • 2. Cadet Hotel, SoBe

With its festive Deco façade wrapped around a corner, this little find has one of the most enviable locations in South Beach. Comfortable, rather stylish rooms, and very efficient and professional service. Clark Gable once stayed here.

  • 3. James Hotel, SoBe

From the moment you cross the threshold, everywhere you look there are brightly painted tiles, murals, and all manner of whimsical touches, including at least five different “Welcome” signs. Make reservations well in advance – the location is unbeatable.

  • 4. Tide Vacation Apartments, Hollywood Beach

Facing the sea, directly on Hollywood Beach’s Broadwalk, each accommodation is a spacious efficiency (self-catering) apartment.

  • 5. Best Western Beachcomber, Pompano Beach

An extraordinarily exclusive feel at very reasonable prices. Accommodations range from villas, to rooms with or without kitchens, to penthouse suites. The distinctive wrap-around balconies add an unusually plush touch to the architecture.

  • 6. Kon Tiki Resort, Islamorada

The homey Olde Keys experience at its best. Not at all stylish, in fact, just a little bit raw, but very welcoming and comfortable. It has gardens, a heated freshwater pool, a sandy beach, and protected lagoon on Florida Bay, and a boat ramp.

  • 7. Duval House, Key West

These gracious Victorian twins and their white picket fence will win your heart. The rooms are accented with lots of wicker and florals, and everyone seems extraordinarily friendly. The location is unsurpassed for convenience.

  • 8. Atlantic Shores Resort, Key West

Key West’s only oceanfront adult alternative resort, catering to the most mixed clientele you can imagine. The biggest draw is the clothingoptional pool and sundeck right out on the Atlantic, which is pretty much “Party Central” most hours of the day and night.

  • 9. Abaco Inn, Key West

On a secluded lane in the lush heart of the Old Town district, not far from amenities. All rooms are smoke-free and decorated in cool, restful colors. Out back, there’s a relaxing tropical garden.

  • 10. Southwind Motel, Key West

An old-fashioned, unpretentious motel. There’s a large freshwater pool and sundeck, set in a tropical garden. Some rooms have kitchenettes, and all guests have off-street parking.
