Top 10 Nightlife
-
1. crobar
Housed in an architectural gem, the former Cameo Theater, this is high-tech fun at its most cutting-edge. crobar is glitzy and full of attitude, and you should definitely wear your Prada bowling shoes, or whatever’s the latest thing to turn the fashion cognoscenti’s heads.
-
2. Jazid
A special place in Miami Beach for those who appreciate jazz. South Florida’s top musicians perform nightly. Since there’s no cover, do the right thing and order a drink or two to make sure this haven of anti-chic stays afloat. You’re there for the music, the real thing in a sea of glamorous SoBe hype.
-
3. Nerve Lounge
An understated choice favored by locals, where you can hear yourself think, and your friends talk! Neither edgy nor elegant, but regulars praise it for its “reality factor.” A cozy gathering place for friends up for slightly subdued fun.
-
4. B.E.D.
Mixed gay and straight clientele, famous food, and, yes, beds, and only beds, for dining on or for flopping when you take a break from bopping. Gimmicky it may be, but devotees say it’s “just the right mix of weird and wonderful”.
-
5. Opium Garden
Where you could very well rub elbows with a celebrity or two, if you can get in. At its peak of recherché cachet at the time of writing, it’s popularity with the big-name stars is bound to wane, but one visit will confirm its undeniable charms.
-
6. Rumi
For the neo-lounge-lizardmystic in you, trance and world music is a specialty. The medieval Islamic poet for whom it is named would probably never fathom Rumi’s allure, but regulars swear it’s the only place in SoBe with “spiritual” dimension.
-
7. Penrod’s Complex
This beachfront complex is a playground for the Euro-hip and trendy denizens of SoBe. Nikki Beach is located on the first floor and Pearl Restaurant & Champagne Lounge is on the second. New themes and dances every week, fashion shows, and interactive entertainment. Valet parking.
-
8. Mynt
Enjoy a menu of custom cocktails at this hot nightspot in South Beach. The hippy crowd here enjoy partying in style.
-
9. Twist
SoBe’s premier gay venue, huge and always jumping, but it doesn’t get started until very late, of course, and then it goes till dawn. Don’t show before midnight unless you want to be considered a desperate wallflower. So popular of late that even straight people are beginning to take to it.
-
10. Tantra Restaurant and Lounge
A water wall greets you when you step inside Tantra. Inhale the jasmine-scented candles while you listen to the new age music. There’s always a line to get in, but don’t go too early. The fun doesn’t start until the small hours.
