Montréal and Québec City

Situated on the mighty St Lawrence River, the sights of these two cities captivate visitors with their history, culture and festivity. Not only were they both major players in the foundation of Canada but their portside locations have kept them at the heart of international commerce, resulting in a harmonious blend of heritage architecture and exciting modern venues that charm all those who come to Canada’s “belle province.”

  • The underlying thrust of this compelling center (also known as iSci) is to demystify all aspects of science, from technology and how it influences our daily lives, to exploring the underwater world of the ocean. Entertaining and innovative interactive games make the learning fun. For younger kids there is an indoor playground with a model dragon (see Centre des Sciences de Montréal).

  • This former firehall provides an interactive exhibition containing many local treasures of Montréal.

  • On display here are scale models and documents tracing the history of the city’s defense network.

  • Québec City’s history is interpreted in 12 multimedia segments covering events from 1608 until the present.

  • A light-filled glass cavern forms the entrance to this multilayered shopping mall. Inside are restaurants, shops and six cinemas.

  • Single, double or dormitory choices are offered, with fully equipped kitchen, games room and Internet available.

  • This richly decorated chapel is the greatest achievement of artist Napoleon Bourassa, grandson of Louis-Joseph Papineau, the father of Québec nationalism. Bourassa studied in Paris, Rome and Venice, returning to Montréal with the desire to create fine art as an expression of patriotism and faith. The chapel was erected in 1876 for the Sulpician Order.

  • The tantalizing aroma of meat over an open grill wafts through the Gare du Palais station which houses this popular steakhouse.

  • Nowhere is the spirit and passion of Québec Province more obvious than in this 200-km (130-mile) coastal district of rolling hills, quaint villages and pastoral scenes. Baie St-Paul, with its heritage houses, is one of the most charming.

  • The Chateau Beauvallon is an absolutely amazing hotel tucked away in the deep snow of the Les Laurentides Mountains, Quebec. This is a place where you can check out the ranking on Trip Advisor (number 1 hotel in the area) and read all the good reviews on Expedia (average rating of 5 stars out of 5) and won't be disappointed. The inn itself is a gorgeously traditional Quebec-style collection of several lodges containing suites that overlook a bubbling hottub in the foreground and a big frozen lake behind that. The rooms are spotlessly clean and the fireplace in front of the sofa is a must for warming up after a day on the slopes of Mont Tremblant. Friendly staff that actually mean it when they say they want to help you have the best holiday, and don't ever seem like they are putting on a 'tips-please' fake smile. There is nothing I miss more than finishing the day by wallowing in the outdoor hottub, glass of wine in hand, with fat snowflakes drifting down around us. Pure bliss!
