  • 1. Missisquoi Bay

    The traditional home of the Abenaki native people, this lush area in the western corner of Cantons de l’Est was the first refuge for Loyalist settlers crossing into Canada after the American Revolution.

  • 2. The Orchards

    The best territory for apples in the province is the Montérégie Region, but Cantons de l’Est also has an abundance of orchards around Dunham, Brigham, Compton and Stanbridge.

  • 3. Lac Brome

    Lac Brome consists of several delightful lakeside communities: Knowlton; Foster; Bondville; Fulford; Iron Hill; East Hill; and West Brome, all of which retain in part a bygone way of life.

    Since it opened in 1960, Mont Sutton has been a favorite with downhill skiers due to its superior slopes.

    In 1748 the Seigneurie Saint-Armand was given to René Nicholas Levasseur by the King of France and much of this spectacular property can be seen today along the country roads from Vale Perkins on Lake Memphrémagog to the village of Saint-Armand.

  • 6. Mont Owl’s Head

    This dramatically positioned family ski destination is set above Lake Memphrémagog and is tied with Mont Orford (see Parc National du Mont-Orford) as Québec’s highest vertical drops.

    Sir Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman are among those on the list of regulars at the Manoir Hovey resort here (see Manoir Hovey, North Hatley). Le Festival du Lac Massawippi runs popular music concerts from April until end of June.

  • 8. Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook

    More than 50,000 years ago the Wisconsin Glacier started to melt giving birth to the Coaticook Lake and then this river, which dug a cavernous gorge. It now attracts visitors to the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world (see Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook).

    Stargazing is the rule in this huge natural wonderland as the Astrolab observatory beckons astronomers of every level.

  • 10. Lac Mégantic

    Located at the eastern edge of the townships in the Appalachian foothills, this peaceful lake provides outdoor activities including a beach.
