1. Insectarium, Montréal
This astounding display, unique in North America, celebrates insects of every size and shape. It opened in 1990 thanks to Georges Brossard, who traveled the world to collect the fascinating bugs. Although most of the insects are dead, there are live tarantulas and other creepy crawlies, safely ensconced behind glass (see Insectarium).

2. Biodôme, Montréal
It is rare to see birds from the northern and southern hemispheres in one place, but in this unusual exhibit animals from the Arctic, Antarctic, Tropics, Laurentian and St Lawrence marine habitats are housed under one roof in a controlled setting resembling their natural surroundings (see Biodome).

3. Planetarium, Montréal
Under the starry skies projected onto the Star Theatre’s domed ceiling, visitors are propelled into the heavens courtesy of high-precision technology. A fascinating journey into time and outer space to understand the planets and the universe.

4. La Ronde Six Flags Amusement Park, Montréal
The largest amusement park in Québec was originally opened for Expo ’67. Since Six Flags took over as owner in 2001, however, even more fun can be had as new rides and attractions are added each year. Enthusiasts will love Vertigo, which swings visitors 18 m (60 ft) up in the air through a 360-degree rotation. Tamer rides, such as spinning tea cups and carousels, will appeal to younger children.

5. Laser Quest, Montréal
This exciting adventure involves making your way around a vast, dark labyrinth of passageways and tunnels equipped with a laser beam with which you score points by zapping other participants. The whole journey is accompanied by rousing music, which only adds to the exhilarating atmopshere.

6. Centre des Sciences de Montréal
The underlying thrust of this compelling center (also known as iSci) is to demystify all aspects of science, from technology and how it influences our daily lives, to exploring the underwater world of the ocean. Entertaining and innovative interactive games make the learning fun. For younger kids there is an indoor playground with a model dragon (see Centre des Sciences de Montréal).

7. Le Théâtre de L’Oeil, Montréal
Performances, workshops and exhibitions are all part of the fun at this puppet theater. Kids can watch how the puppets are made, learn to pull strings, and attend a show.

8. CinéRobothèque, Montréal
Choose a film from the National Film Board’s inventory, then watch while a robot goes through its routines to find, select and deliver the video to you without error. Then enjoy the film in a private viewing unit.

9. Labyrinthe du Hangar 16, Montréal
Each year a tantalizing new theme is created to lure young people into an intricate maze of corridors, obstacles, puzzles, surprises and thrills, in this port hangar. The entire family can solve the mysteries together, or kids can go on their own.

10. Cosmodôme, Laval
A fascinating look at space and the universe in all its diversity. Large scale models of the solar system explain the make-up of every planet, while the rockets exhibition provides an insight into space travel.
