Munich

Of the city he lived in for many years, 20th-century writer Thomas Mann said that “Munich glows”. And indeed, the sky is often a brilliant blue dotted with puffy white clouds in “Italy’s northernmost city”, where the relaxed, often Baroque lifestyle gives it a southern flair. Englischer Garten and the Isar meadows are right in the middle of the city; Starnberger See and the mountains are virtually on the doorstep. But Munich is also a city of art and culture with an abundance of historic buildings, museum treasures, and a lively cultural scene. Fine art, leisure, and la dolce vita make this a unique city.

For Munich on the Internet, visit www.muenchen.de With 1.3 million inhabitants, Munich is Germany’s third-largest city.
  • A three-star hotel in the south of Munich, convenient to the Forstenrieder Park leisure area. Telephone and TV in all 34 modern rooms. Parking is available, and pets are welcome.

  • A pretty and charming hotel in an imposing palais in the Lehel district. Each of the attractive rooms is furnished in a unique and palatial manner. For aperitifs and much more, guests gather in the glorious neo-Romanesque courtyard. At Gandl, the restaurant next door, you can enjoy an excellent dinner.

  • This pension occupies a heritage-protected, restored turn-of-the-19th-century building in the city centre. The 35 rooms are appointed with practical yet individual furnishings; some retain their original plaster details. There are no telephones in the rooms. Pets are permitted.

Our stay is 5 nights at this lovely hotel at the foot of the mountains at the Southern tip of the Romantic Road. It serves as a base for marvelous sights-seeing. Beginning October 18, a featured special arrangement includes a room for 2 nights, with 2 candlelight dinners at the wonderful restaurant on the primises, tickets for the two castles (Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau), and a carriage ride to the castles. Further, they are quite ready to assure that on your visit you see all of the area sights. They are eager to direct you to Reutte, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Kloster Ettal, Wieskirche, Fuessen, promenade on Lake Hopfensee or rent a boat for a romantic evening, a Coupe Jacques at the nearby café. Another day might include Lake Plansee, through the Ammenwald and Andechs Monastery, Graswang Valley, Schloss Linderhof, Oberammergau. Then Steingaden, Buching, Lake Bannwaldsee, and the Alps always prominently in view. They will assist with more. But to top it all--breakfasts each morning with a view of Neuschwanstein.
