Barkeeper Ernst Lechthaler has created a celebrity watering hole with a healthy helping of ordinary folk mixed in. It is next door to the elegant Hotel Vierjahreszeiten. Excellent cocktails and cigars are served up in a colonial-style ambience.

Stiglmairplatz, a busy square not far from the city centre, is dominated by this historic 1883 building. It has a beautiful pub, several halls, a ballroom, and a large beer garden (see Beer Gardens). In March, the pub hosts the tapping of the first Triumphator barrel, ringing in the “fifth season” – the bock beer season. The stone lion perched above the entrance is the symbol of the Löwenbräu brewery.

Formerly a seedy corner pub, the Moro has reinvented itself as a trendy pub bar with a rustic interior. Attracting clientele from all walks of life, the menu ranges from Bavarian to Mediterranean to Asian cuisine.

A former heating plant, this large hall opens only for scheduled events such as concerts, theatre, dance performances, and readings. The café is open daily except Sundays. This is one of the most beautiful venues in the city, located right behind the Müller’sche Volksbad, and has a lovely beer garden that beckons in summer.

Night-owls flock to this spot for live acts from 11pm.

With meals served all night until 6am, this club is popular with night owls. Live bands hit the stage at 11pm, playing to a crowd that includes the over-30 set. Sophisticated attire is recommended to get past the doorman. The patio is a treat in summer.
