  • Take a break from your visit to the museum and enjoy excellent coffee and homemade cake.

  • Traditional pork roast and cool beer served on the large terrace of the beer garden, with its fabulous view across the lake.

  • Bavarian and international cuisine, and a glorious view of the Chiemsee.

  • Enjoy a meal next door to a fairy-tale castle: Bavarian and international cuisine.

  • Art Nouveau bar; its restaurant has a traditional Jewish (part kosher) menu. Hip clientele.

  • Munich’s top bar since 1982, now in a new location on the Hofgarten. Most tables are reserved for regulars, so be sure to book one in advance. Although the menu is limited, every item on it is delicious. Charles Schumann’s fried potatoes and steak are famous.

  • This offshoot of legendary Schumann’s is in the Fünf Höfe. Hip and modern. Daytime hours only.

  • Feel-good Greek restaurant serving up ambitious menus that far surpass the standard fare.

  • Frequented by museum visitors and the fashionable crowd, this café has one of Munich’s most beautiful courtyard beer gardens. Alcoholic beverages and light meals are served, as well as coffee and cake. Excellent lunch choice.

  • A mixed crowd frequents this down-to-earth pub, a popular night-time destination for a beer. Bavarian-Italian food is served at reasonable prices, and there are a few patio tables in summer.
