  • Good, inexpensive French restaurant with lots of ambience and a romantic patio.

  • Opened in 1997, Lenbach is located in the restored Bernheimer Palais on Lenbachplatz. British design guru Sir Terence Conran based the interior on the seven deadly sins – a runway, symbolizing vanity, goes through the middle of the dining room. Ali Güngörmüs – Gault-Millau discovery of 2004 – conjures up creative magic with his fusion cuisine. Outdoor patio.

  • Unpretentious neighbourhood bar reminiscent of those in Portugal. Large portions (mostly fish), excellent selection of port, and, of course, cocktails.

  • Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. Inexpensive dishes are served in the garden in summer.

  • Tapas bar with a bodega atmosphere serving good food and offering excellent value for money. There is a garden patio in summer.

  • This salon bar opens fairly late in the evening. Small and cosy, it serves exclusively sushi. Be sure to reserve a table (089-48 61 67); the doorman won’t admit any more patrons once all the tables are taken.

  • This traditional pub dating to around 1800 serves up standard Bavarian fare. Prix fixe lunch menu. Beautiful shaded beer garden and legendary Weiße Feste parties during carnival.

  • Night-owls flock to this spot for live acts from 11pm.

  • Tucked away in the Bayerischer Hof’s basement, this club has top-notch jazz and funk headliners.

  • The city’s oldest Italian restaurant is tranquil and understated. Wonderful small courtyard.
