  • Opened in 1997 in a 13th-century palace, the decor is a ravishing blend of Moorish and European elements. Incredible views and a fabulous restaurant.

  • A Best Western chain hotel but Mediterranean in feel. Perched on Posillipo Hill, it’s far from the city chaos and boasts a terrace restaurant with a stunning view of Vesuvius.

  • Curiously, this establishment insists on calling itself a “bed and breakfast”, but it more closely resembles an elegant boutique hotel. The rooms are beautiful, light and airy and the service most refined.

  • This is a great little pensione, with lots of old-style, traditonal Italian atmosphere and lovely staff. It's a bargain for the location: in Vomero, on a hill, overlooking the sea with views towards Capri from some of the rooms. Vomero is much quieter than most districts in Naples yet it's only a short (and not to be missed) ride into town on the funicolare.

  • Very good budget accom. Many of their (10) rooms have a terrace, awesome views. Cheaper style accom though for the budget traveller. But clean, comfortable beds etc, good, helpful staff. Good location. (Just 400 steps down to the beach!). Via Fornillo 42, Positano Positano 84017, Italy.

  • One of the more basic choices in town, but it’s pleasant enough and very welcoming. Some rooms have air-conditioning, at an extra daily charge, and there’s a garage nearby that offers a deal to guests.

  • A simple yet well laid-out hotel with a lovely pool and views.

  • Pietra Donica Bed and Breakfast

A 1700 farmhouse converted into a romantic bed and breakfast. Located in the centre of Forio on the island of Ischia. Restaurants and bus stops are within easy walking distance and the owner is extremely friendly. He speaks English, although does let you practise your Italian on him.

  • Dating from 1878 and redolent of bygone days, this hotel is very stylish, with Art Nouveau touches and an overall aura of gentility. It’s in one of the nicest parts of town, not far from the Villa Comunale. Many rooms have great views of the bay, and air-conditioning is available at an extra charge.

  • For stays with private families this company offers range of choices and areas in Naples and on the coast.
