1. Caffè Gambrinus
This belle époque institution still retains much of its original decor. It was popular with free-thinking intellectuals and writers in the past and closed down by the Fascists as a result. The pastries and buffet lunch are particularly good.

The café’s main claim to fame is its location right next to the Neptune Fountain. Tables outside provide you with an excellent vantage point.

This traditional pasticceria (pastry shop) is an excellent choice for procuring the signature Neapolitan sweets, particularly sfogliatella and babà (see Pastries).

Hidden away at the top of a flight of stairs just off Via Chiaia, this is gourmet dining, with dishes crafted according to seasonal choices.

This family-run establishment has lots of charm. The speciality is seafood.

Excellent dishes here include seafood stew. Always lively.
