With its skyscrapers, great museums, and bright lights of Broadway, New York is a city of superlatives. There are countless sights that have to be seen, but a handful are truly definitive of the city. These highlights illustrate the very best.

Bryant Park

Bryant Park

Adjacent to the New York Public Library, this park is a relief from the city. In the spring and summer there is an outdoor "reading room" on the north (42nd St.) side of the park- a few carts of books and reserved tables. Walking along the tree lined paths is a relief from the city at almost any time of year. Finally, it has free wireless- a rarity.

I haven't actually been here but its been recommended by a friend as a good place to go for brunch after a hard morning's shopping in Soho!
Burger joint at Le Parker Meridian

For possibly the best burger in New York head to one of the best kept secrets - the Burger Joint in the Parker Meridian Hotel.

The Burger Joint is an address for those in the know and is a well hidden room in the lobby of this hotel concealed behind a black curtain. you almost feel you need a password to enter, but when you disappear behind the curtain its another world.

A small room with a few booths and tables the menu is short and to the point but fab - hamburger or chesseburger, fries, milkshakes, soda, water or beer. but for around $15 bucks its a bargain for a real New york burger and experience.

A true NY find - so shhh don't tell everyone!
Cabana at the Seaport

A Latin flavor enlivens this Seaport favorite, serving a Cuban/ Caribbean menu. Expect pitchers of sangria and spontaneous samba.
Cafe Asean

Cafe Asean is a low-key pan-Asian restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. With its funky low-lit decor, friendly service, reasonable prices and varied offering of delicious Thai, Malaysian, Vietnamese and other Asian cuisines, it's one of my absolute favorite little spots in NYC. Espeically lovely in warmer weather when the back patio is open and illuminated by candles. Not to be missed!
Café Boulud

Since Daniel opened, Boulud’s first restaurant has become more casual, but the French menu and tab are serious. In summer, the terrace tables are a fine dining spot convenient for Museum Mile.
Café Carlyle

Chic and classy Café Carlyle is New York at its best and is well worth the steep cover charge; Bobby Short can be seen here, and Woody Allen is often part of Monday night jam sessions. Bemelmans Bar features pianists like Barbara Carroll, and a cheaper tab.
Café de Bruxelles

Mussels and frites can’t be beat at this comfortable restaurant. Don’t miss the impressive selection of Belgian beers either.
Café du Soleil
