New York

With its skyscrapers, great museums, and bright lights of Broadway, New York is a city of superlatives. There are countless sights that have to be seen, but a handful are truly definitive of the city. These highlights illustrate the very best.

  • Empire Diner

This feels like a genuine 1950s diner straight out of a film. Food is great and you'll feel like you've stepped back in time! Watch out though, it does get busy.

  • Japanese food

  • Gorgeous little restaurant in the heart of Greenwich Village. The food feels essentially Italian but the atmosphere is most definitely hip Greenwich Village. But this restaurant isn't the pretentious beautiful hangout it could be, its a popular local that serves great food.

  • Upstairs at the justifiably famous supermarket, there is the best place for breakfast or brunch in New York. I suggest the cream cheese, skallion and tomato scrambled eggs on brioche with a gallon of coffee: once a week I allow myself their pancakes with maple syrup and, as a concession to health, blueberries. Bliss.

  • This three-hour tour of Greenwich Village is led by a competent guide (ours had a terrific sense of humour) who describes the history of the Village and provides an insight into life in this bustling area. The food is wonderful and consists of varied tasters of local and international cuisine, both sweet and savoury. Although it is more of a gentle stroll than a walk, there is little opportunity to sit down, so comfortable footwear is recommended.

  • This place take you back in time. Its amazing that a place like this still exists in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the world. New York is known for being the leader of new trends. But we also forget that it has been around for over 250 years. This restaurant was establish in 1762 and still has so much charm. I stumble across this place just wondering around Manhattan looking for lunch. I saw this building that said it was a museum and oddly it had a menu by the door. Thats interesting and different. It sure did catch my attention. The restaurant was filled mainly with business lunch goers. Mainly in suits. The looked like they worked at Wall St or Lawyers. There were a hand full of people that looked like they were tourist or Birthday goers.

They have $22 Prix fixe lunch menu selection that day or you can order off the lunch menu. I decided to do the Prix fixe menu. The first course I got was a house salad and some ice tea to go along with it. It was pretty good. The 2nd course I got was the fish and chips which was pretty tasty. Then I got a slice of apple pie and some ice cream for desert. The food was good. But the experience was exceptional. The weight staff was very friendly and prompt. I defiantly would love to stop in again. Maybe this time take a look at the museum attach to the restaurant.

  • Medium sized burger joint, very friendly staff ,helpful & approachable. Fresh delicious food cooked while you wait, & wow, believe me, it's worth the wait ! Best food we ate the entire holiday. Certainly a New York City Highlight.
