  • 1. Renninger’s Antique Extravaganzas

From Victorian furnishings to vintage political campaign buttons, you can find all things old and valuable sold at the 1,400 antique stalls spread across a meadow here. The prime goods go fast, so get here early (it opens around 9am).

  • 2. Kissimmee Blue-grass Festival

Close harmonies, aching fiddles, and no drums – welcome to the world of blue-grass. Savor the sounds of American folk performers such as The Ramblin’ Rose Band and The Osborne Brothers. Lawn chairs are encouraged and camping is available.

  • 3. Central Florida Fair

This massive 11-day shindig takes place close to Downtown Orlando, but its cowpoke attitude is a world away. The country-style attractions include carnival rides, livestock shows, country music, farming exhibits, and more fried food than you’ll ever care to eat.

  • 4. Winter Park Sidewalk Arts Festival

For three days, this prestigious outdoor festival sees hundreds of artists exhibit on sidewalk stalls. Traffic comes to a standstill as massive crowds mill around and ponder purchases.

  • 5. Orlando-UCF Shakespeare Festival

The highlight of this troupe’s nine-month season comes each spring, when they alternate two outdoor productions next to Lake Eola. One is staged traditionally, the other gets a modern twist.

  • 6. Orlando International Fringe Festival

With over 500 performances in 10 days, the Fringe offers improvised comedy, drag shows, stand-up, and more. Inspired by the Edinburgh festival, this premier event draws enthusiastic local crowds.

  • 7. Zellwood Sweetcorn Festival

The draw here is eating as much sweetcorn as you can while listening to the day-long lineups of excellent country bands. A huge machine, Big Bertha, cooks up to 1,650 ears of corn every nine minutes. There are also some fairground rides and a crafts fair.

  • 8. Florida Film Festival

This 10-day festival is packed with more than 100 features, documentaries, and shorts. Film-makers introduce their works, and a few Hollywood names make guest appearances.

  • 9. Gay Days

Gay Days is a week-long blowout of parties and theme park visits for more than 130,000 gay and lesbian guests. By day, gay and straight mix in the parks; at night, parks and clubs are rented for evening raves.

  • 10. Anime Festival Orlando

This gathering of “Japanimation” fanatics has screenings, Japanese video games, dance and costume contests, and dozens of dealers offering hard-to-find collectibles.
