A beautiful park set in the Left Bank. A favourite of Parisiens, who can be found sitting and reading or strolling around, the Jardin du Luxembourg is an oasis of calm in a frenetic city.
Sit in one of the numerous chairs lining the walkways, take a picnic and stretch out on the grass and watch the world go by. The shallow lake draws adults and children alike to hire a toy sail boat and a long stick ad set sail across the water! A children's play area and merry-go-round are reminiscent of the parks of days gone by. Why not sit and relax by the bandstand - there is usually someone playing - be it a small orchestra or lone musician.
The park is beautiful all year round but especially in spring, as everything wakes up and the gardens are sprinkled with an explosion of colour.

It's a modern fountain, the work of a Québecois artist named Guillaume Daudelin. More than an ordinary fountain, it is a sculpture, given in 1984 as an hommage from Quebec to the city of Paris. It is called L'Embâcle, which means Ice Jam (that is, obstruction of a river bed with blocks of ices). There is no gap between the sidewalk's large paving stones and the fountain's four slabs of bronze, so that the pavement seems lifted up by the water that sprays through it.
L'Embâcle beautifully conjures up break-up of ice in Québec when springs arrives at last. It is famous because of its artistic value, and functional originality as well.

The Promenade Plantee is an above street-level charming walking path planted along an old railroad line, and extends from Place de la Bastille southward for several kilometers. There are interesting shops found beneath it, and it's a good place to jog or walk.

A wonderfully nautical hotel complete with a beautiful giant, wooden globe and port holes!

There is no better way to see Paris then to simply explore all the area of the city, whether it be by foot, bike or bus. Start early in the morning and follow your instincts around the streets, stopping at places of interest. Who know what you will find when you let go of your plans and simply see what Paris has to offer.
