These two quarters were once the province of the rich and the royal. Adjoining the Tuileries Gardens is the largest museum in the world, the Louvre, while the grand opera house gives the second quarter its name. The Place de la Concorde is one of the most historic sites in the city.

  • Angelina

This coffee shop on Rue de Rivoli serves the best hot chocolate in town (the renowned 'L'Africain'). Its other specialty is a great Mont Blanc (chestnut puree on meringue with whipped cream on top - diabetics beware).

  • Quiet, clean, well-priced by Paris standards and very nicely located near the Opera, about two blocks from a Metro stop, and if you want, walk-able to the Louvre and other tourist stops. There are tons of places to eat close by.

  • Trois Poussins Hotel

What every Parisien hotel should be, but isn't. Quiet, clean, friendly and reasonably priced! This place is great for families and ideal if you're coming in to Gare du Nord.

  • A delightful wine bar serving many top wines by the glass. Also serves up fine meals to compliment the wines.
