Prague

At the geographical heart of Europe, Prague’s beautiful cityscape has been carved and sustained by a variety of emperors, artists and religious communities, from the Gothic exuberance of its castle and cathedral, to the dignity of the medieval Jewish Cemetery, and the 19th-century opulence of the “new” town. Under Communist rule, Prague was off the tourist map, but since 1989 the city has seen a surge of visitors eager to take in this spectacular city.

  • Prague Municipal Gallery

The city’s finest 20th-century Czech art collection is on display at the House of the Golden Ring, while the House at the Stone Bell and Old Town Hall (see Old Town Hall Features) are used for temporary exhibitions.

  • Between Masarykovo nádraží and the Old Town, the Renaissance offers a fitness centre with pool, three restaurants, 314 rooms and 12 suites; all rooms have satellite TV and voice mail.

  • In 1968 First Secretary Alexandr Dubček introduced economic and social reforms that did not sit well with Moscow. Warsaw-Pact tanks rolled through Prague streets killing more than 100 protestors.

  • Bedřich Smetana’s Má vlast (My Country) kicks off the annual three-week festival that draws classical music performers and fans from around the globe. The round of concerts closes with Beethoven’s Ninth symphony.

  • Prague Square Hostel

The best located hostel in Prague. 200steps from Old Town Square, 2 min walk from Jewish part, 5 min walk from Charles Bridge. Free internet/wifi, breakfast. 2 - 8 bedded rooms.

  • Prague Square Hostel is the best located hostel Ive stayed around the world. Its just at the famous Astronomical Clock, between two main Prague squares, Old Town Sqaure and Wenceslaw Square. You just walk everywhere!!!

The hostel is very clean, beds confortable. Theres common kitchen which is useful when you are on low budget. Plus we met a lot of nice people there.

  • Salman Rushdie, Susan Sontag and Elie Wiesel are just some of the internationally acclaimed authors who have attended this annual event. The organizers often get grief for giving Czech writers short shrift.

  • Prague zoo

If you have a day to spare, Prague Zoo is a must. It's one of the best zoos in Europe , amazing value, and easy to get to. There are shows throughout the day,- don't miss the elephants! (doesn't matter if you can't understand the commentary!)

  • Fusion cuisine here is combined with a cool ambience. Very popular with the upper crust, so book well ahead.

  • Pravda

Around the corner from the Old-New Synagogue (see Features in the Old-New Synagogue) is where the other half dines on a multi-national menu before unwinding in the music bar downstairs. The window counters are ideal for people-watching.
