  • Bruce Willis jammed here when in town. Weekends find a queue of young clubbers stretching along the river bank waiting to get in to these remodelled municipal baths. Four levels of clubbing, from classic rock to DJs and, occasionally, live bands.

  • Spacious, comfortable ground-level rooms, good food and friendly staff.

  • This French-owned café does a solid business of crêpes, waffles and other Gallic delicacies. A nice selection of French and other imported wines, too.

  • A complete menu and impressive international wine list set this sophisticated cocktail bar and music club apart from the crowd. Largely undiscovered, so you won’t have trouble finding a table.

  • This relaxed French vinothèque pours outstanding table wines and sells the finer stuff for scandalously low prices. The French community fills it nightly, nibbling cheeses and listening to the occasional live gypsy band.

  • This pleasant and smart restaurant offers light lunches and suppers with a view of the city. The café in the courtyard is the place to end your tour of the castle.

  • The granddaddy of Prague’s clubs, the cavernous Lucerna hosts live jazz as well as rock and dance parties, including the ever popular Eighties night.

  • Local “big-beat” acts are the mainstay at this Wenceslas Square music bar, but it occasionally hosts big names in jazz such as Maceo Parker, as well as where-are-they-now relics. (A separate adjoining venue, the Velký sál, or large hall, hosts bigger acts such as Wynton Marsalis.) The club’s 1980s night is one of the biggest dance parties in town.

  • M1

This “secret lounge” in the Old Town is perfectly suited to trendy kids in the know. It is open nightly, and the varied musical offers reflect the social mix.

  • The proprietors of Mecca have turned this former factory in the Holešovice warehouse district into a giant dance-and-dining emporium. The food is nouvelle cuisine, the crowd trendy and the parties wonderful. A little off the beaten track – take a taxi – but the trip is worth it. The restaurant serves food until 2am.
